Jessica Childers has been named Lee University's Female Athlete of the Week as she opened up the indoor track season with an outstanding performance at the ETSU Invitational in Johnson City last Saturday.

Childers finished ninth in the 1 mile run against mostly NCAA Division I talent and finished just nine seconds behind Davidson's Olivia Menden. The junior from Englewood, Ohio needed a 5:32 to qualify for the NCCAAs and delivered a 5:18.73.

"Childers ran her fastest indoor mile ever and stayed in contention for much of the race," said head coach Caleb Morgan. "With a little more confidence she will have a shot at winning most meets we attend."

Childers and the Lady Flames will look to qualify more athletes on Sunday when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to run in the Emory Crossplex Invitational.
