Lee University has a rich championship tradition beginning with play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) in 1967. The Flames and Lady Flames joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in 1975 and were members of the NAIA for 37 years before transitioning to NCAA Division II in the fall of 2013.
Lee has been official members of the NCAA Division II since July 2015 and has ranked in the top 20 percent of all NCAA D2 Schools in the Learfield/IMG Directors' Cup Standings (measures overall success among all 304 NCAA D2 schools) each year. The Flames and Lady Flames captured the GSC All-Sports Trophy, Men's Trophy and Women's Trophy for the fifth consecutive season and ranked in the top five percent of all D2 schools for the third straight year in the Learfield Directors' Cup Standings in the 2023-24 season. This means out of 304 NCAA D2 schools we ranked 28th in overall success last year.
