Junior Angie Hughes has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Blairsville, Ga. native allowed just one earned run in 13.2 innings pitched last week and finished 2-1 with one save.
Hughes opened the week tossing the final two innings in relief to earn the victory as the Lady Flames held off Trevecca Nazarene on Wednesday.
In a 6-0 victory over West Florida in game two of Saturday's conference doubleheader Hughes' pitched a complete game shutout and struck out 10 batters. The hard throwing righty came right back in Sunday's finale to work the final two innings and preserve a 2-1 lead for Lee to earn her second save of the season.Â
Hughes is now 10-5 on the season with a team-leading 2.18 ERA. She has punched out 130 batters in just 93 innings.
The Lady Flames will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday when they host Tennessee Temple in a non-conference doubleheader from Butler Field. Lee jumps back into conference play with a three-game set against Delta State beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.
