Junior lefty Art Vidrio has been named the Lee University Male Athlete of the Week after a dominating performance against Mississippi College last Saturday.
Vidrio picked up his third straight pitching win, hurling a 1-hit shutout to lead the Flames to a 5-0 victory over the Choctaws in the opening game of the series. Vidrio fanned six and walked two,improving his record to 6-3 overall. Vidrio had a no-hitter going until Hunter Bolin singled in the sixth inning.
Vidrio, a native of Santa Ana, Calif., is sporting a 2.97 ERA this year and has struck out 68 batters in 72 2/3 innings of work. Vidrio and the Flames (30-15, 18-10) will now gear up for the regular season finale against No. 17 West Florida. The crucial Gulf South Conference series will begin on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Olympic Field.
