Senior Audrey Smith wrapped up her fantastic running career for the Lady Flames with two All-American finishes at last weeks NCAA D2 Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Charlotte, N.C.
Smith was the final Lee competitor for the third straight night on Saturday. After running in the 3000-meter steeplechase preliminary and final the previous two nights, the senior faced the 5000-meter run on a hot and humid evening. Smith was 19th after the first 2200 meters and moved up to 15th at the 2600-meter mark. She continued to make her move through the pack and into 11th with 800 meters to go. She covered the final 400 meters in 1:15.72, her fastest 400-split of the day, to finish 11th with an overall time of 17:04.65.Â
"Audrey finished off a fantastic four years with our program just the way we wanted. She came away with two All-American awards this weekend," said head coach Caleb Morgan.
Smith earned Second Team honors in the 3000-meter steeplechase and in the 5000-meter run
