BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Lee women's lacrosse player Dariana Blanton has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Blanton led the Lady Flames to a 20-17 season opening victory over Erskine College on Saturday afternoon from the Lee Soccer Field.

The Canton, Ga. native scored a team-high five goals in the win. She put the icing on the cake scoring the final goal of Lee's 4-0 run to end the contest with 1:45 remaining.

"Dariana, played hard the whole game. She was a presence all over the field.  She played solid defense, scored five goals, and captured nine draw controls.  There was a time in the second half when we fell behind and she kept working and dug us out of our hole."

The Lady Flames will get back to work on Saturday as they host Southern Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
