Courtney Shelton has been named Lee University Female Athlete of the Week after wrapping up the fall season with an impressive showing in the final two tournaments.
Shelton took home medalist honors at the National Christian Athletic Association Women's Golf National Championship. Shelton carded a 211 total in the 54-hole tournament to finish seven strokes ahead of second-place finisher and teammate Bernadette Little. As a team the Lee women took home the national championship with a comfortable 13 stroke advantage over runner-up Dallas Baptist.
Shelton followed that performance by capturing the Lady Flames Shootout medalist honors at the Cleveland Country Club. The native of Franklin, Tenn. fired an 81 in windy conditions on Monday but rallied back to card a 2-under 70 in the final round to capture the individual title. The senior capped the impressive round with a 40-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.
As a team Lee went on to win their home tournament firing a 629 total in the 36-hole event finishing a remarkable 25 strokes ahead of of the closest challenger North Georgia.
