Ashley Matthews has been named Lee University's Female Athlete of the Week after earning All-American honors at the National Christian College Athletic Assocation (NCCAA) Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Rome, Ga.

Matthews got things going early for the Lady Flames as she finished second in the 10000 meter run on day one of championships. Matthews crossed the finish line 38:27.12  while Glynnis Meadde of Dallas Baptist University calimed the title with a mark of 38:29.84.

"The race was fairly tactical with a slow early pace," said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan. "Ashley did a great job covering moves. When Glynnis Meade made a move with a mile to go Ashley responded and put herself in contention to win. I was gald to see her pick up her first All-American award on the track."

The junior from Sanford, N.C. will lead the Lady Flames into their final event of the season on May 16-17 when they  take part in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
