Five different Lee players tallied goals as coach Matt Yelton when to his bench early and often in Lee’s 5-0 win over Emmanuel College at the Lee Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.
“We have scored quite a few goals the last few games and I really like the way we have been able to spread those goals around and not just depend on one player to go out and score our goals,” noted Yelton.
The Lady Flames, ranked second by the NAIA coaches, and winners of seven straight matches, moved out to a 3-0 halftime advantage and never looked back. Lee stands at 9-1 overall and 5-0 in SSAC play. Emmanuel drops to 5-8, 1-5.
Ode Fulutudilu got the Lady Flames on the board at the 16:27 mark in the first half. The talented forward weaved her way in and out of traffic for the score.
Fulutudilu triggered the second goal. The junior’s corner kick sailed into the box and was knocked in by senior Kim Conrad. The final score of the first 45 minutes was delivered by Laura Thacker. The double assist came from Ashley Aragona and Danielle Ciabattone.
In the 70
th minute freshman Marie Eliassen scored on a cross delivered into the box by the ever-present Fulutudilu. Aragona, who continues to battle ankle problems, stepped up and nailed the final goal of the match. Debbie Rogers assisted.
“I was really pleased with the team’s performance tonight,” said Yelton. “We were very good in possession and showed a lot of patience against a team that was happy to defend for 90 minutes.
Our next game against AUM (Auburn-Montgomery) is a crucial match up that will go a long way in determining our standing in the SSAC” he added. “We need to have a really good week of training to get ready for it.”
Thursday’s showdown with the WarHawks is scheduled for 7 p.m.
