MEMPHIS - Lee's first season of men's soccer competition in the Gulf South is one that the Flames or their opponents will likely never forget. Coach Paul Furey's battling club has been involved in 10 GSC matches this season and six have gone into overtime periods, four resulting in ties.

The Flames and Christian Brothers tangled for the second time this season on Friday night. The first meeting ended with the Bucs winning in two overtimes. Friday's game also went into double overtime, but this time Lee earned a point in the GSC standings with the 1-1 draw.

"We couldn't hold a one-goal lead, but we earned a tough point on the road," said Furey. "We weren't at our best tonight. CBU is a tough physical side and it was hard to find a rhythm to our game, especially inside the final third."

The Flames, 5-3-4 overall and 4-2-4 in the GSC, moved on top on a goal by Josh Ball in the 21st minute of the opening half. Jonathan Finley delivered the assist. Lee held the lead until the 85th minute when Jose Ferraz tallied after getting an assist from Youssef Naciri.

Regulation time ended in the 1-1 deadlock and neither team could tally in the two 10-minute overtime periods.

Sophomore Tom Halsall turned in another sparking effort in goal for the Flames. He had nine total saves, including a pair of big ones in the two overtimes. "Tom preserved a point for us with some big saves," noted Furey. The CBU charts show the Bucs taking 20 shots and putting 10 on target. The Flames could muster only five shots and Ball's score was the only shot on goal.

Lee's will continue its road adventures on Sunday, moving down to Cleveland, Miss. to challenge Delta State. The kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 EDT.
