CBU Defeats Flames 2-0

Bucs Post 7th Straight Victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Surging Christian Brothers University handed the visiting Lee men's soccer team a 2-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) defeat on Friday evening. It was the seventh straight victory by the Bucs who improved to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Flames dropped to 7-6-2 overall and 2-4-1 in league competition.

Brendan Bennett put CBU on top to stay in the 24th minute. He was assisted by Diego Silva Viera. The final score of the game came with only 10 seconds remaining when Kevin Tikhomiroff tallied off an assist from A. Chinas Lopez. "Their final score came as we were trying to push up," noted Lee coach Paul Furey.

"We got back to playing Lee soccer but just couldn't produce a much needed goal," stated Furey. " We kept the ball and combined well but didn't finish our chances. Their keeper (Britton McGuire) had a couple of nice saves." Overall, the Flames were able to produce six shots and placed four on goal. McGuire was credited with four saves.

"I thought we conceded a soft goal in the first half, but Joey (Hinshaw) kept us in the game with two quality second-half saves," added Furey. Christian Brothers attempted 17 shots and nine were recorded on goal. Hinshaw collected four saves.

The Flames will have only one day to regroup before traveling up to Jackson, Tenn. and facing Union University in another tough GSC match on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
