Penalty Kick Wins for Flames

Adam's Boot Moves Lee Into NCCAA Regional Competition

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -  Garrison Adams scored on a penalty kick in the 41st minute and that is all the Lee men's soccer team needed in posting a 1-0 victory over host Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon.

It marked the final game of the regular season for the Flames and also ended a four-game losing streak.  Lee evened its season record at 8-8-2 and will begin preparing for NCCAA tournament play, beginning with regional competition on Nov. 21.

"We had a good buildup in the penalty kick as Arturo (Rocha) played a ball down the line to Quade (Marinell) who then found Jake (Luzardo) on the far side. Jake controlled it before being taken down in the box. Garrison then stepped up to bury it from the spot," explained a happy Lee coach Paul Furey.

The rugged defensive battle saw the Flames record nine shots and place three on target. Emmanuel goalkeeper Ryan Brose had two saves for the Lions. Emmanuel took 15 shots and actually placed eight on goal. Lee keeper Joey Hinshaw had eight key saves.

"I'm really proud of our two seniors (Justin Furey and Hinshaw) who played hard. Joey earned a shutout in goal. He had one big save of the eight. He did a very nice job for us," added the Lee coach.

Furey noted that nothing seems to come easy, "but we got it done today on the road. We can now prepare for the NCCAA regional."
