The Lee Flames soccer team struck quickly with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half and two more in the first five minutes of the second half to defeat visiting Campbellsville University, 4-1, Thursday evening at the Lee Soccer Field.

The Flames improved to 4-2-1, while the Tigers fell to 7-4-0 on the season. Lee will next host Shawnee State University at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Justin Furey put a start to the scoring in the second minute after receiving a pass from Barrett Mills. Furey turned and struck it past the lunging goalkeeper.

"We beat a pretty good team tonight," said Lee head coach Paul Furey. "They have some dangerous players, but we started the game off great with Justin's goal in the first two minutes and did a terrific job managing the game after we went up 2-0."

Mills would figure into the night's second goal as well. His pass up the left flank found Quade Marinell and Marinell crossed the ball into the box where David Perez put the Flames up 2-0 just 10:02 into the match.

Marinell and Perez were prominent in Lee's third and fourth goals. Marinell placed a shot just over the keeper's head 55 seconds into the second half. Less than a minute later, Perez delivered his second goal of the match and fifth of the year with a header of Marinell's cross.

"Barrett played really well for us tonight, setting up two goals. Quade's goal was huge to start the second half. Tommy (Halsall) came up with some big saves again in goal."

Halsall tallied eight saves to record the win in goal. The junior now has 35 saves in seven contests.

Campbellsville ended Halsall's shutout bid when Marcelo Petit headed in Ross Lindsey's corner kick in the 69th minute.

The Flames took five shots in the first half to Campbellsville's nine. The Tigers put four shots on frame, while Lee's only two shots on goal found the back off the net. In the final 45 minutes, Lee outshot the visitors 9-8 with each team placing four shots on goal.

"We kept the ball well and managed a good part of the game. They countered very quickly and we did a good job of slowing their attack down," added Furey.

The Flames were awarded three corner kicks, while surrendering 10 to Campbellsville. The Tigers were called offside once and Lee was flagged twice.
