Tigers Edge Flames, 2-1

Lee Comes Up Short at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Lee men's soccer team fell behind early and saw its comeback effort come up a goal short in falling to West Alabama, 2-1 on Friday night.

Jake Molony scored the lone Flames' goal in the 87th minute to make it a one score game but the Flames would not get another opportunity to find the equalizer before time expired.

"Jake scored late to help make the final minutes interesting but we had four or five great chances we should have capitalized on earlier," head coach Paul Furey said.

The two clubs were nearly even in total shots, with Lee holding a slight 9-8 advantage. The Flames placed five on target while the Tigers proved very accurate with six on frame.

"Tough loss at a tough place to play. We had great chances to win but the ball did not bounce our way tonight," noted Furey. We played well for the last 75 minutes after they scored one goal that bounced off their player on a clearance by one of our defenders."

AJ Williams got West Alabama going early when he scored at the 7:24 mark off a deflected corner kick. Both teams managed just one corner in the contest.

The Tigers would the one score lead into the second half when Jean-Baptiste Meyniel scored the second goal on a free kick from 20 yards out.

Daniel Hrenko fell to 7-2 on the year in goal for the Flames. He registered four saves. Brad Louis improved to 7-4 in net for West Alabama and also tallied four saves. The Tigers are now 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the Gulf South Conference.

The Flames (8-5, 3-2) will look to end a two-match losing skid on Sunday when they travel to face Alabama Huntsville at 4:30 p.m.
