Lady Flames Overpower West Alabama 6-0

Kinsey Cichowitz turned in the hat trick (3 goals) and Lauren Peters scored twice as the Lady Flames bounced back in resounding style after last Sunday's 1-0 loss to West Florida. Summer Lanter tacked on the other goal in the 6-0 victory over West Alabama on Friday evening at the Lee Soccer Field.

"I'm very pleased with our response this evening," said coach Chris Hennessey after his Lady Flames improved to 6-1-0 in Gulf South Conference play and 9-2-1 overall. "We went out with lots of energy from the first whistle and kept a high tempo throughout the majority of the game."

Peters' first goal came just three minutes deep into the contest. Lanter delivered the assist. In the 18th minute, Cichowitz got her first goal of the evening on a second assist from Lanter. The Lady Flames took a 2-0 margin into the halftime break.

Cichowitz was right back on the attack in the 59th minute and this time it came on McKenzie Bricker's assist. Peters recorded her eighth goal of the season in the 73rd minute and Bricker stepped up to deliver another assist.

Cichowitz completed the hat trick in the 80th minute and Bricker gladly dished off her third assist of the evening. The final score came with only three seconds remaining. Lanter tallied and Carly Smoltz picked up the assist.

"It is always hard to single out a player but I thought Kinsey had a very good game this evening," praised Hennessey. "She scored three goals and her first one came at an important time of the contest. We were having to ride out a lot of pressure from West Alabama at that point."

The Lee defense produced its eighth shutout of the season and still has only allowed four goals. "Credit goes to our keepers and defense for another shutout," added Hennessey. "Credit to our midfield for the energy they brought and finally to our strikers who added goals enroute to a great win. It is important to keep this momentum going into Sunday's game." Alabama Huntsville will host the Lady Flames on Sunday afternoon and picked up a 3-1 win over Shorter on Friday evening.

Haley Gribler worked the first 72 minutes in goal for the Lady Flames and improved her record to 5-2-1 on the year. Erin Olson came on for the final 18 minutes. Gribler picked up four saves and Olson added one. West Alabama dropped to 5-2-1 (GSC) and 7-5-1 overall.

The Lady Flames showed their domination with 23 shots and 10 were on goal. The Tigers managed just 10 shots and five were on target.
