Women's Soccer Defeats West Georgia, 1-0

Taylor Green Records First Shutout of Lee Career

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Summer Lanter scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season just 2:34 into the match to give the Lee University women's soccer team a 1-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) victory at the University of West Georgia. The Lady Flames improved to 6-3 overall and will carry a 5-1 conference mark into Sunday's showdown in Florence, Ala., against front-leading North Alabama (8-1, 7-0 GSC).

Lanter was one-on-one with the West Georgia goalkeeper and beat her high to record the unassisted goal. It was the senior's third game-winning goal of the season.

Taylor Green stopped all three shots she faced to record her first career shutout and improve to 2-0 on the season.

"We had a really good week of practice and it carried into today," said Lee head coach Chris Hennessey. "Our work rate was phenomenal. We created good chances and kept the intensity high the whole 90 minutes."

Six of the Lady Flames' nine matches have been decided by a 1-0 margin, including the last four. Lee holds a 3-3 record in those matches and have won three of the last four.

"Our defense is beginning to work for each other more now," said Hennessey. "We are starting in the front, pressuring the ball there and allowing the back line to set up earlier."

Lee outshot the Wolves 26-9, but only four shots were placed on goal. The Lady Flames took nine corner kicks to West Georgia's three.
