JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lee University men's team posted its third shutout win with a 9-0 blanking of Carson-Newman University Wednesday afternoon at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex. The Flames improved to 3-0, while the Eagles dropped to 0-4 on the season.
Bruno Medeiros and Boyd Blackburn put the Flames on the scoreboard first with an 8-2 decision over Jesus Bacete and Joseph Stiles at No. 3 doubles. Rhys Milne and Jake Okines doubled-up Gabriel Dabdab and Rodolfo Schwarz, 8-4. Daniel Prata and Igor Schattan held off Taylor Barie and Marc Bantel, 8-6, to finish the Lee sweep of doubles competition.
"It was a very solid win for us today," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. "They gave us all we could handle, so to get all three was very pleasing."
???????Okines continued the momentum with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Schawarz and Milne clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Dabdab.
???????Schattan needed an 8-0 tie-breaker to win his opening set against Bantel and finished the two-set win with a 6-4 margin in the second set. Prata took down Barie 6-3 and 6-2.
Blackburn dropped just two games to defeat Stiles at No. 6 singles. Medeiros completed the team shutout with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Bacete.
"What I like most about this effort today was the way we finished. We are getting better at playing complete matches as a squad. This was a good match to get under our belts before conference play," added Hynes.
The Flames begin Gulf South Conference play on Saturday. Lee welcomes Delta State University to the DeVos Tennis Center for a 10 a.m. match.
