LAKELAND, Fla. – The Lee University men's tennis team opened its spring break trip with a 9-0 shutout of John Carroll University Monday afternoon at the Kelly Recreation Complex. The Flames improved to 5-2, while the Blue Streaks fell to 1-3.
Rhys Milne and Jake Okines took down Gustavo Garcia and Dillon O'Brien, 8-1, to open the team scoring. Boyd Blackburn and Bruno Medeiros beat Parker Holyn and Andrew Triner, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles. Daniel Prata and Igor Schattan completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 advantage over Tyler Cole and David Sinense.
Okines and Schattan dropped just one game each on their way to winning at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively, and securing the team win.
Medeiros was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles. Blackburn beat Cole 6-4 and 6-2 to win at No. 3 singles. Jordan Knott lost two games in defeating Scott Adsit at No. 6 singles. Prata edged O'Brien 6-4 in their opening set before claiming the second set by a 6-0 margin and finalizing the team shutout.
The Flames are set to play Rockhurst University on Tuesday at the USTA National Campus with first serve at 7 p.m.
