ROME, Ga. – The Lee University men's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 6-3 defeat of Shorter University Tuesday afternoon at the Walt Attaway Tennis Complex.
Bruno Medeiros and Jordan Knott shut out Caleb Diller and Mason Barnette, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles to give the Flames (9-6, 3-5 GSC) the early lead. Rhys Milne and Jake Okines won 8-2 at the first position against Jose Moreno-Manzano and Talha Zubair. Daniel Prata and Igor Schattan beat Malik Yawar and Gregoire Vincent, 8-3, to complete the doubles sweep.
Shorter (3-9, 0-7 GSC) avoided the team shutout when Schattan retired early in his No. 3 singles match. The home-standing Hawks claimed wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to tie the team score at 3-3.
Medeiros took down Vincent 6-4 and 6-3 to put Lee back into the lead and Prata secured the team win with a 6-1, 6-0 mark against Diller. Knott supplied the final margin with an 8-2 score over Barnette.
"We got off to a good start with doubles and that set us up," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. "We needed guys to step up in singles. Bruno, Daniel and Jordan did that for us today."
The Flames return to action on Saturday against Montevallo. The GSC match is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at the DeVos Tennis Center.
