Lady Flames Outlast Delta State in OT, 1-0

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Sophomore Kelsey Yoder's third goal of the season turned out to be the biggest for the Lady Flames on Friday night as they turned back Delta State University in double overtime, 1-0.

With the clock ticking down and showing only 1:52 remaining, Yoder was awarded a penalty kick and drilled her shot past DSU's reserve goalkeeper Heather Travis. Travis entered the battle just minutes earlier when starting keeper Amanda Hilliard left the game with an injury.

The important GSC victory improved Lee's mark to 3-1 and 5-2-1 overall. Delta State dropped to 1-3 and 4-4-1. The Lady Flames will continue their Mississippi journey on Sunday when they will be paired against rival Mississippi College in a 2 p.m. kickoff.

"I'm very proud of the way the team dug deep this evening. Delta is a much improved team and it showed in their results," pointed out Lee head coach Chris Hennessey. "It wasn't an easy game. We came up against a well-organized team."

Lee completely dominated offensive play, firing 28 shots and placing 13 on goal. On the other hand, defensive-minded Delta State only fired four shots against the Lady Flames and placed just one on frame. Lee keeper Taylor Green was credited with a save and picked up the win. Hilliard had seven saves for DSU. Lee had 10 corner kicks to just two for the Lady Statesmen.

"We defended with much more maturity this evening and it showed," added the Lee coach. "Now we have time to enjoy the win and get ready for Sunday."
