Hollingsworth's Hat Trick Leads Lee Past Trojans

Playing before a capacity crowd the Lee women's soccer team opened the 2018 home season with a 3-1 victory over Trevecca Nazarene University on Monday evening. The Lady Flames all-time record now stands at 5-0 against the Trojans.

"I want to offer a big thank you to all the fans that came out to support us today," said head coach Chris Hennessey. "The energy and atmosphere they provided was tremendous. I hope to see them again on Saturday" (when the Lady Flames host Carson-Newman College).

Before Saturday's showdown with the highly ranked Lady Eagles, the Lady Flames will face a road challenge on Thursday when they travel up the mountain to Dahlonega for another battle against talented North Georgia.

Senior midfielder Mia Hollingsworth out ran the Trojans on the flank and scored all three unassisted goals for the Lady Flames. The first score came at the 4:09 mark in the first half on a hard strike into the left side of the goal from the top of the box. Shortly after her first goal, Hollingsworth gave Lee a 2-0 advantage with less than seven minutes gone off the scoreboard clock. She slipped past the keeper from the near wing after dribbling down the left side from midfield.

Trevecca cut the margin to 2-1 (22:16) when Makena Schlosseri tallied after Gabriela Dias delivered a perfect cross from some 15 yards away. The score came off a header to the far post.

The Lady Flames completed the game's final score and it was Hollingsworth again doing the damage. She took on the Trevecca keeper one-on-one after streaking down the left side to set up the goal.

"Mia had fantastic game tonight. It is as good of a performance as I have seen from a player in a long time," said Coach Hennessey after the Lady Flames improved to 1-0-1. "Anna Leslie was also very good today and gave us a lot of energy in midfield."

Hennessey added that he thought his team played well in parts, "but we need to learn how to compete and perform for an entire 90 minutes. There were definitely a lot of positives, specifically a big improvement in the back four."

The Lady Flames outshot Trevecca 19-9 and placed 11 on target. The Trojans had five shots on goal but Lee keeper Taylor Green pulled down four saves. Delayna Holman registered seven saves for the losers.
