Union Takes Down Flames, 3-2



JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union Bulldogs handed the Lee men's soccer team its third straight Gulf South Conference loss with a 3-2 triumph on Friday night.

The Flames had plenty of chances firing away 22 shots and placing nine on target but were forced to play from behind all evening long.

Mats Fredrickson got the scoring started with a goal in the 23rd minute set up by William Valencia.

Jared McWhorter knotted things up at 1-1 in the 36th minute for his team leading fifth goal of the season.

The tie score would hold up for just 39 seconds as Union stunned the Flames on a James Jackson goal. Valencia once again was credited with the assist along with Gavin Scott.

Valencia completed a four-point match with what proved to be the game-winning score at the 55:07 mark. The Bulldogs finished with 14 shots, six on frame.

Riley Indermuehle got the Flames to within one with his first collegiate goal in the final minute of the match. The final seconds would tick away however to send the
Flames to 6-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the GSC. Union moves to an even 5-5 on the year and 3-4 in league play.

Union's keeper Euan Morton stepped up with six saves in the contest to earn the victory. Morton and the Bulldog defense faced 22 shots and six corner kicks.

The usually stout Lee defense has now conceded multiple goals in each of the last four matches. The Flames are 1-3 in that stretch. Daniel Hrenko tallied three saves in net.

The Flames will need to rest up quickly as a date with Christian Brothers in Memphis awaits on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
