Falcons Hand Lee 3-1 Defeat

MONTEVALLO, Alabama – The University of Montevallo scored two goals in the final six minutes to record a 3-1 win over the Lee women's soccer team on Friday evening. With the victory, the host Falcons improved to 6-1-1 (GSC) and 8-2-3 overall. The loss dropped the Lady Flames to 5-2, 10-3. The road adventures continue on Sunday when Lee moves on down to face the University of Auburn at Montgomery (1 p.m.).

"Full credit to Montevallo this evening. They out-worked us in every area of the field and we got what we deserved," stated Lee head coach Chris Hennessey.

The Falcons wasted no time in jumping on top when Samaro Lino scored in the seventh minute. The Lady Flames came back to tie the match in the 31st minute when Julia Kaset scored on a double assist by Riley Engels and Lauren Weimer.

The contest remained deadlocked until the 85th minute when Kaeri Ward scored on an assist from Romee Contrenas. The icing was put on the victory cake in the 86th minute when Espy Sanchez tallied an unassisted goal.

The Lady Flames were limited to a season low two shots but both were on target. Montevallo fired away with 17 shots and had seven on frame. The Falcons used a pair of keepers. Annie Mason worked the first 15 minutes and Judith Perez-Bayon came on for the final 75 minutes, picking up a save and posting the victory. Lee's Taylor Green had four saves but allowed three goals in suffering her third loss of the year.

The Falcons received six corner kicks and Lee was limited to four. The Lady Flames were whistled for 12 fouls and Montevallo six.
