Engels' Sisters Lead No. 17 Lee over Wolves, 2-1

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Thanks to the sister combo of Riley and Avery Engels the No. 17 Lee women's soccer team wrapped up regular season play with a comeback, 2-1 victory over West Georgia on Saturday afternoon.

After trailing 1-0 for most of the match Riley Engels struck for her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 76th minute to tie things up at 1-1.

Just three minutes later it was Avery's turn as she converted a penalty kick at the 78:31 mark to give the Lady Flames the advantage.

Freshman Mollie Wheeler got her second straight start in net for Lee, filling in for injured starter Taylor Green. Wheeler earned her first collegiate victory with two saves.

"This was a gutsy win today. This is a very long road trip and it certainly takes its toll on the girls," said Lee head coach Chris Hennessey. "But from the first minute I felt like the effort and intensity was there. They found a way to win today and at this stage of the season that is what matters.

Karley Baker got the Wolves on the board first in the 34th minute. Goalkeeper Jackie Donaldson tallied four saves in the loss for West Georgia as she faced 12 shots.

Lee out shot the Wolves, 12-6 with six placed on frame.

With the victory the Lady Flames end the regular season at 14-4 overall and 10-3 in the GSC. The Wolves fall to 7-10-1 and 5-8 in the GSC.

"Overall it's been a good regular season. Now as we enter postseason our mindset has to be strong every game," added Hennessey.

The Lady Flames will now gear up for the Gulf South Conference Tournament beginning on Tuesday. Lee will enter postseason as the No. 4 seed and will host the GSC Quarterfinals from the Lee Soccer Field. The opponent will be set later this evening. Coach Hennessey's ladies are 4-0 in the GSC Quarterfinals all-time.
