The Lee University Women's Tennis team defeated Lees-McRae College 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center to hand Lee head coach Patric Hynes his 200
th coaching victory. The Lady Flames improved to 3-0 with all three victories via shutout, while the Bobcats fell to 2-3.
"I'm happy we took care of business today," said Hynes. "The team did a great job stepping out and taking control of their courts in doubles."
The Lady Flames combined to win the three doubles matches 18-1. Francesca Tondi and Carley Sickinger beat Zeynep Cakirer and Mackenzie Langmade 6-0 in No. 2 doubles. Lisa Kirr and Lauren Trammell won their No. 3 doubles match against Rebecca Pierce and Jaden Acklin by the same score. Asia Grzegrzolka and Micaela Belen Maiz were 6-1 winners over Sandy Allen and Nursharneem Shamsudd to complete the doubles sweep.
Tondi put Lee up 2-0 with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Allen in the top spot. Kirr beat Cakirer 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 3 singles to extend the lead. Belen Maiz took down Shamsudd 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the team win.
In the fourth position, Trammell defeated Langmade 6-2, 6-1. Sierra Donaldson won her opening set against Pierce 6-2 before pitching a shutout in the second set. Laura Beth Hardesty secured the clean sweep with 6-2 and 6-3 scores against Acklin.
The Lady Flames are scheduled to open Gulf South Conference play on Tuesday against West Georgia. Â The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton, Ga.
