The Lee University Women's Tennis team overcame a slow start to defeat Martin Methodist College 7-0 Monday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames improved to 4-1, while the RedHawks fell to 1-6.
Lisa Kirr and Lauren Trammell shut out Darby Tompkins and Jennifer Wilson at No. 3 doubles to take a 1-0 advantage for the doubles point. MMC's Skylar McDonald and Michelle Blaha doubled-up Asia Grzegrzolka and Micaela Belen Maiz at No. 1 doubles.
Francesca Tondi and Carley Sickinger trailed Sina Albersmeier and Miriam Sanchez 4-3 before roaring back to win 6-4 and secure the team doubles point.
Tondi carried the momentum into her No. 1 singles match with Blaha where Tondi won in straight-sets, 6-2 and 6-1.
"We didn't start the way we wanted in doubles, but the ladies did a great job to respond in singles," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. "I thought Fran was very solid today."
Sickinger held off McDonald to win their opening set 7-5 and put the Lady Flames up 3-0 with a 6-2 mark in the second set. Kirr clinched the team win with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Albersmeier.
