ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Flames tennis team continued its Spring Break success with a 7-0 defeat of Hampton University at Sanlando Park. Lee improved to 6-2 overall, while the Pirates dropped to 1-8.
Daniel Prata and Antonio Pons earned won their No. 3 doubles match by default. Jesus Garcia and Cristian Pons took down Charles Hudson and Fernando Fernandes 6-1 to secure the team doubles point.
Davy Van Geerke and Luke Thompson won 6-2 over Jake Okines and Bruno Medeiros to avoid the doubles sweep.
Medeiros won by default at No. 6 singles to push the Lee lead to 2-0. Cristian Pons blanked Basil Post at the fifth position. Garcia dropped just one game to Fernandes in winning 6-1 and 6-0 to clinch the team victory.
Prata beat Thompson 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 position. Okines posted matching 6-3 set scores to win in straight sets over Van Geerke. Antonio Pons completed the team shutout with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Hudson.
The Flames complete their Spring Break competition on Thursday against the University of Findlay. The non-conference battle is set for a noon start at the Fort Gatlin Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
