ORLANDO, Fla. – The Lee University women's tennis team finished a perfect Spring Break trip with a 5-2 win over University of Findlay Thursday afternoon at the Fort Gatlin Tennis Center. The Lady Flames improved to 7-2, while the Oilers dropped to 3-5.
"Very good win for our ladies today," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. "We've asked them for a few things and to their credit they have been receptive to it. And it's paying off."
Lauren Trammell and Sierra Donaldson took down Cristina Nieto Soto and Mikaela Hindenlang 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. Asia Grzegrzolka and Micaela Belen Maiz posted the same score to defeat Samantha Sweet and Laiying Alvarado at No. 1 singles to secure the team doubles point. Carley Sickinger and Lisa Kirr needed a 7-5 tie-breaker to win the No. 2 doubles match 7-6 and complete the doubles sweep.
Kirr opened the singles scoring with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Brito at the third position. Belen Maiz beat Kirov 6-2, 6-3 to extend the Lee lead to 3-0.
Findlay recorded wins at the top two positions to close the gap before Trammell closed the door and clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nieto Soto. Donaldson provided the final margin with 6-0 and 6-2 scores against Hindenlang.
"Our freshmen (Kirr, Belen Maiz, Trammell and Donaldson) led the charge today, it's going to be an exciting future ahead with this group," added Hynes.
The Lady Flames return to action on Saturday, March 16, against Bellarmine University for the first of four consecutive home matches. The non-conference meeting is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
