Lady Flames Outlast Montevallo 4-3

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Lee University women's tennis team ended its regular season on a two-match win streak with a 4-3 Gulf South Conference victory over Montevallo Sunday afternoon at the University of Montevallo Tennis Court Complex.

The Lady Flames (16-5, 7-4 GSC) swept the doubles competition to take an early 1-0 lead. Asia Grzegrzolka and Micaela Belen Maiz beat the 34th-ranked team of Maria Garcia and Dorotea Hanzek 6-2. Lauren Trammell and Laura Beth Hardesty secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Amanda Gautreaux and Rayne Sinclair. Carley Sickinger and Lisa Kirr used a 7-5 tie-breaker to win their No. 2 doubles match with Emily Beatty and Anne-Christine Leu 7-6.

Montevallo (7-9, 4-4 GSC) tallied a tying point with Beatty's 7-5, 6-2 win over Grzegrzolka at No. 1 singles. Sickinger gave Lee the lead right back with a win at the second position. Sickinger won her opening set over Leu 7-5 then posted a tie-breaker score of 7-3 to win the second set 7-6.

Gatreaux needed a 9-7 second-set tie-breaker to complete the straight-set win over Kirr. Trammell put the Lady Flames back in front with 6-2 and 6-3 set scores against Sinclair. Belen Maiz held off Whitney Hamilton 7-5 in the first set of their No. 4 singles match before clinching the team win with a 6-1 margin in the second set.

Lauren Pero posted a three-set win over Hardesty to provide the final margin. Hardesty won the first set 6-2 and Pero won the second and third sets by 6-3 and 7-5 scores, respectively.

"This has been a great weekend for our ladies," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. "(We played) two really good teams and to come out with two wins is just a sensational result for us. I'm very proud of Hadley (Trammell), she was huge for us this weekend. Mica and Asia were flawless in doubles against two great teams and I'm just wrapped with what these girls are doing right now. Now we just need to get some rest and get fully prepped for the tournament."

The GSC Championship will be held May 2-4 at Lagoon Park and O'Connor Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala.
