The Lee men's tennis fell to Tusculum on Wednesday afternoon after the Pioneers battled back from a point down to claim a 4-3 win over the Flames from the DeVos Tennis Center.
The Flames fell behind in doubles, losing at No. 3 as Nico Ramirez and Drew Johnston lost to Gabriel Yaguar and Jacco Mensinga 6-3. Lee would battle back to win the point as Jesus Garcia and Cristian Pons topped Frank Bonacia and Tomas Almeida, 6-3.
The duo of Bruno Medeiros and Antonio Pons ranked No. 20 in the nation and third region, clinched doubles with a 6-4 win over David Akinpetide and Leon Huck.
Jesus Garcia started singles off on the right foot for Lee with a 6-2 win in set one and 5-0 lead in set two over Almeida before he retired.
The Pioneers would get on the board at No. 2 singles as Akinpetide, ranked 15
th in the region, came back from a set down to defeat Ramirez, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Tusculum tied things up at 2-2 in the match at No. 3 singles as Bonacia (No. 17 region) outlasted Cristian Pons, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Medeiros had Lee on the verge on the upset victory with a win at No. 4 singles to give the Flames a 3-2 advantage. Medeiros defeated Almeida, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6.
Vadzim Raitsou defeated Johnston, 6-3, 6-1 to tie things up at 3-3. The match then came down to No. 5 singles. Huck battled Antonio Pons in a three-set thrilling match. Huck took the first set, 6-4 but Pons rallied back for a 6-4 win in set two.
Huck would close out the match with a 7-6 win in the third and final set.
Lee will travel down to the Sunshine State to tangle with No. 3 West Florida in Pensacola on Sunday at 10 a.m.
