Lady Flames Win Two on Day Two of Spring Break Trip

Orlando, Fla. – The Lee women's tennis team made it three straight wins at the USTA National Campus with a 7-0 victory over University of Mary and a 6-1 win over Winona State University.

The Lady Flames opened the day bright and early at 8 a.m. against the Marauders and won the double point, 2-1. Carley Sickinger and Dana Moreno opened things up with a 6-1 win over Danielle Wolf and Jamie Stoppler. Lauren Trammell and Sierra Donaldson sealed the point with a win at No. 3 doubles 6-2 over Kelsey Lajom and Kali Askvig.

Donaldson breezed to the first singles win at the No. 4 spot without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0 over Hedi Jacobson. Matin Ujdur followed suite at No. 3 blanking Lajom, 6-0, 6-0. Trammell kept the train rolling with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Wolf to clinch the match. Moreno won, 6-4, 6-2 over Askvig.

Micaela Belen Maiz remained undefeated beating Yusra Hegy, 6-3, 6-3. The sweep was complete at the No. 1 spot as Sickinger outlasted Tasha Dembo, 7-6, 4-6, 10-5.

"This was a solid win for our ladies. I thought Carley did an excellent job out there. There's no easy matches when you play at #1 and she regrouped really well to take the third set," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes.

In the nightcap the Lady Flames continued their dominance with a 6-1 over Winona State.

"We had to really earn our doubles point tonight. Winona are a scrappy team and they put us under a lot of pressure. They had a big crowd there and I thought it was a great match environment," said Hynes. "We showed some signs of fatigue in singles, but that's to be expected since it was our fourth match in three days. Our girls showed great toughness to finish a long day playing well.Matina was very tough today, she's had some injury concerns to deal with, but she was desperate to contribute to her team."

"A couple of days off is exactly what we need to refresh and get ready for Friday's match," noted Hynes. The Lady Flames are now 6-5 on the year and will take two days off in the Sunshine State before wrapping up the week on Friday against Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
