MILTON, Georgia – The fifth-ranked Lee men's golf team placed sixth in the Southern Tide Intercollegiate held on the prestigious Atlanta National Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. The 20-team field was loaded with 15 of the top 20 Division II programs and Barry University (Florida) walked away with top honors after posting a 36-hole +4 total of 868. Limestone (S.C.) +5 869 was second, followed by Carson-Newman (874), South Carolina-Aiken (875) and Arkansas Tech (877).

The Flames finished sixth with a +13 886 after three-day scores of 289-287-310 as they completed the fall portion of their schedule. Lee finished ahead of all the Gulf South Conference teams in the field, including West Florida which finished eighth and West Georgia a team that was ranked fourth heading into this week's outstanding event.

"A very solid week for us, we picked up some strong head to head wins. Today was a challenge in every way. The course was playing extremely difficult, we didn't get off to a good start, but we hung in there and gutted out a solid finish in what had to be the strongest field of the year," said Lee Director of Golf, John Maupin.

Carson-Newman's Jonathan Nielsen finished with a 209 to earn individual medalist honors. The Flames were paced by Beck Burnette who tied for eighth with a 69-70-77 (4-over-par) 216. Connor Pollman tied for 12th, 70-70-78 -218. Trey Melvin added a 77-70-79 -226 and finished 42nd while Dalton Chuba came in at 74-77-76 -227 (46th) and Oliver Lewis-Perkins rounded out Lee's scoring 76-77-81 -234. It is easy to see that scores posted on the windy and much cooler final round were much tougher on most of the golfers on the Atlanta National layout.

"Connor and Beck once again gave us strong individual performances. I thought Ollie was in a tight spot this week, we all have so much confidence in him to play well, but truthfully he wasn't anywhere close to 100 percent, and has had very little prep time over the last few weeks. I know he'll be raring to go for the spring," added Maupin. "A really good fall season from our guys. I'm excited about the opportunity we have ahead of us come springtime."
