Lady Flames Remain Perfect on the Year with 3-1 Win over AUM

The Lee women's soccer team remained perfect on the year with a 3-1 win over Auburn Montgomery on Sunday afternoon from the brand new Multi-Sport Complex on Lee's campus.

Sage Sammeli scored two goals in the match to lead the Lady Flames. She started things off quickly with a goal in the seventh minute. In the 88th minute the junior scored Lee's third and final goal as stole the ball from a Warhawk defender and rocketed a shot into the back of the net from 30 yards out.

The Lady Flames took a 1-0 lead into halftime but would also go into the half down a player as Caitlin Dickson was shown a red card in the 44th minute on a late take down of a Warhawk attacker to prevent a one on one with the keeper.

Ruth Edrington gave Lee a two-score lead at the 57:40 mark as she took a pass from Mallory Hayden raced past a defender and blasted a left-footed shot from the top of the box finding the top shelf of the net over the outstretched arms of AUM keeper Rebecca Jameison.

Freshman Haleigh Holland got her second straight start in net from the Lady Flames and recorded two saves. Holland allowed a late goal in the 89th minute to Jennifer Beharie as the Warhawks avoided the shutout.

"I don't think we were anywhere near our best today," admitted Lee head coach Chris Hennessey. "I give credit to AUM I thought they showed more desire and heart in the first half. As a team we need to learn from games like today and keep improving."

The Lady Flames held a 12-9 advantage on shots and placed six on target compared to three for the visitors. The Warhawks earned five corner kicks while Lee took two.

The Lady Flames are a perfect 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in the GSC. The loss drops AUM to 0-2.

Coach Hennessey's club will head on the road to tangle with Valdosta State on Thursday at 2 p.m. Lee returns home next Sunday to battle West Georgia at 3 p.m.
