BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lee University Athletic Department can officially stake its claim as the best in the Gulf South Conference after winning the program's first Overall All-Sports Trophy, first Men's All-Sports Trophy and second Women's All-Sports Trophy the league office announced today.

Lee scored 101.625 total points to top second place Alabama Huntsville by a decisive 26 points. The Lady Flames edged Valdosta State, 34.125 to 33.750 on the women's side and topped the Blazers, 38.250 to 36.250 on the men's side.

"This represents a major milestone for Lee's athletic program.  We didn't get into the NCAA or the Gulf South just to be there; we got in to compete and to win, consistently, in every sport.  This triple award shows we are doing that," said Lee Chancellor Dr. Paul Conn, who led the transition to the NCAA and the GSC as president beginning in 2012. "Our sister institutions in the GSC include some outstanding athletic programs, with top-notch coaches and athletes.  So, it's especially gratifying to know we are matching up with some of the best in the nation."

Lee captured GSC titles in women's cross country, women's indoor and outdoor track field, baseball, and women's lacrosse. Men's cross country, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's golf finished second. The men's and women's tennis teams and softball team finished in the top 8 and qualified for the GSC Tournaments.

"Sweeping the GSC All-Sport Trophy is a major accomplishment in the history of Lee athletics, especially given all the challenges of a global pandemic. Such an achievement under very difficult conditions speaks to the dedication, talent, and teamwork of our athletic administration, coaches, staff, and student athletes. Congratulations to the entire athletic department. We could not be prouder," said Lee President, Dr. Mark Walker.

"What an historical accomplishment for Lee Athletics. We pride ourselves in having competitive teams throughout our program and winning all three awards validates our efforts," said Lee Athletic Director Larry Carpenter. "The GSC is one of the toughest DII conferences in the country and to be recognized in this way is an unbelievable honor. I want to thank our administration for their unwavering support which allows us to compete at this level. I want to also thank our athletic staff, coaches and student athletes for following all the protocols this year. Without their diligence, these awards would not be possible."
