MONTAVALLO, Ala. – Despite outshooting the Montevallo 20-7 the Lee men's soccer team failed to find the back of the net in falling on the road, 2-0 to the Falcons in a key Gulf South Conference battle on Friday evening.
The Falcons made the most of their seven shots as they scored one early and one late. Simon Wittmann put the home team on the board in the 17
th minute off a pass from Edin Hernandez.
Montevallo put the finishing touches on the win in the 85
th minute as Narcis Bou Dalmau fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net off a touch from Sebastian Flores.
The Flames placed five of their 20 shots on goal and had nine corners to just three for the Falcons. Marc Ehmann led Lee with seven shots while Eemeli Makela added six and Eamon McLaughlin fired three.
Tomas Valles kept the clean sheet in goal for the Falcons with five saves. Roel Martinez was charged with allowing both goals and worked the full 90 minutes in net for the Flames.
With the loss Lee falls to 7-3-2 overall and 5-3-1 and in fifth place in the hotly contested GSC standings. Montevallo improves to 7-3-3 on the year and are 6-3 and sit in third place in the GSC. Just six points separate first place West Alabama (5-0-4) and seventh place Christian Brothers (3-2-4).
Lee will have a week off to refocus before hosting the GSC-leading Tigers Friday at 7 p.m. The Flames and Lady Flames will be hosting their annual Kickin It For Kid's With Cancer match to benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation and their work to help families affected by pediatric cancer.
