Lady Flames Defeat the Chargers on the Final Game of the Regular Season

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Lee University women's soccer used two first half goals on the way to a a 3-1 win over the University of Alabama in Huntsville in the regular season finale. Juliana Lopes had a goal and an assist to lead the Lady Flames.
 
Lee came out with a lot of pressure and had several shots early forcing goalkeeper Adriana Wright to make four saves. Lopes scored the opening goal of the game in the 14th minute. She headed a ball in off of a corner kick from Mallory Hayden to give the Lady Flames the lead.
 
15 minutes later, Ellie Crisler won the ball from a UAH defender scored her 15th goal of the season. Crisler now is third in the Gulf South Conference in goals scored. After the second goal, neither team was able to find the back of the net. Grace Berry had a shot that hit the cross bar in the 40th minute.
 
After the halftime break, the Lady Flames got a quick goal from Tatum Miller to make it 3-0 in the 47th minute. Miller received a pass from Lopes and chipped it over the head of the UAH goalkeeper. 
 
The Chargers got on the scoreboard in the 60th minute. Carmen Endicott was fouled in the box and then she converted the penalty kick to make it 3-1. After that neither team really created any chances.
 
Miller's goal was her third of the season and Lopes goal was her fourth of the year. The Lady Flames out shot UAH 22-4 and 11-1 with shots on target. Lee had 10 corner kicks and didn't allow UAH to attempt one. 
 
Head Coach Chris Hennessey was proud of the team effort. "I was really happy with the team effort. UAH is a very good defensive teams and haven't allowed that many goals down the stretch. We got great performances from the freshman that played today."
 
The Lady Flames end the regular season with two straight wins and now get ready for the postseason. They will travel to the University of Montevallo for the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference. "Anything can happen in the postseason," said Coach Hennessey. We will have a huge challenge in front of us for the first round of the tournament.
 
They will take on the Falcons on Sunday, October 30 with a time to be determined.
