DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Lee University women's tennis team lost 7-0 to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Tuesday afternoon at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Lady Flames fell to 3-5, while the Eagles improved to 6-5.
Embry-Riddle won two of the three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. Julia Mautner and Sabrina Ehrenfort beat Hayden Smtih and Larissa Wieser 6-2. Ashleigh Simes and Lisa Kirr evened the doubles competition with a 6-4 win over Itxaso Blanco and Carla Cabrera del Hierro. Jessica Wira Hadipoernomo and Mafalda Soares secured the doubles point for ERAU with a 6-4 advantage against Sierra Donaldson and Lauren Trammell.
Wira Hadipoernomo dropped one point to Trammell to win at No. 3 singles. Blanco pushed the Eagles ahead 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Simes. Ehrenfort cliched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-0 score against Smith.
Cabrera needed three sets to defeat Kirr. Kirr won the first set 6-0 before Cabrera claimed the next two sets 6-4 and 6-0.
Mautner held off Wieser 7-5 in their opening set at No. 6 singles and completed the straight-set win with a 6-0 mark in the second set. Alessia Tripaldelli completed the singles sweep with a 7-5, 6-1 defeat of Donaldson.
The Lady Flames will return to Gulf South Conference action on Thursday, March 10 at West Florida. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
