The Lee University women's tennis team dropped a Gulf South Conference match 7-0 to No. 27 Auburn Montgomery Friday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames fell to 5-9 overall and 3-5 within conference play, while the Warhawks improved to 11-4 (5-0 GSC).
Isabella Pinto and Alba De La Torre defeated Mirjana Ragastovac and Lauren Trammell to open doubles scoring. Nahia Izco and Ane Ibarra won 6-3 against Ashleigh Simes and Sierra Donaldson to claim the doubles point. The 36
th-ranked doubles team of Sofia Navarro and Estefania Garcia completed the sweep for AUM with a 6-4 advantage over Lisa Kirr and Micaela Belen Maiz.
Garcia, ranked No. 24, pushed the AUM lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Belen Maiz at No. 2 singles. Izco used a 7-2 tiebreaker to win her first set with Kirr and completed the win with a 6-1 second-set score. Navarro clinched the team victory with a three-set win over 37
th-raned Simes. Simes won the opening set 6-2, while Navarro posted 6-0 and 7-5 marks in the next two sets.
At No. 5 singles, Ibarra posted a 6-1, 6-4 decision with Donaldson. Viillalvazo needed three sets to beat Ragastovac at No. 4 singles. Pinto completed the shutout with a three-set win over Trammell at the sixth position.
"We didn't play poorly," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes, "AUM are just a tough team. We just need to move forward and get ready for Montevallo now."
The Lady Flames return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT against Montevallo. Prior to the match, the team's five seniors (Donaldson, Kirr, Trammell, Lauren Good and Larissa Wieser) will be recognized.
