BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — For the second straight year the Lee University Athletic Department laid claim to the Gulf South Conference All-Sports Trophy after earning seven league championships this season.
The Flames won their second-consecutive overall award, as they amassed 142.0 points, becoming the third school in league-history to sweep both the men's and women's awards in consecutive seasons, since the introduction of the women's trophy during 1982-83 academic year.
Lee captured GSC tournament championships in women's cross country, women's soccer, men's and women's indoor track & field, men's golf, women's outdoor track & field and baseball. As a result, the Lady Flames topped the women's standings with 51.625 points, while the men's teams led the league with 47.875 points.
"We just completed the most successful year in Lee Athletics history, especially since we joined the NCAA and Gulf South Conference. To win these three awards in the same year is a tremendous honor and a result of the hard work our coaches and student athletes put in each day," said Lee Athletic Director Larry Carpenter. "I would like to thank our administration for their continued support and our staff who works behind the scenes to help make our athletic department successful."
In the overall standings, West Florida (111.375) finished in second, Alabama Huntsville (97.125) followed in third, while Montevallo (93.875) and Mississippi College (91.625) rounded out the top five.
