Flames Tame Shorter Hawks

ROME, Ga. - The Lee University men's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to pull away and defeat the Shorter University 5-1 on Friday evening. Caio Arantes led the way with two goals in the victory. Four different Flames.

The Flames scored first in the second minute of the game when Arantes took a pass from Noam Stein and slotted it down the middle of the goal.

Shorter answered right back with a strike from Matt Allen tied it in the 10th minute for the Hawks. Arantes struck right back on a header after two perfect passes from Marc Ehmann and Fabian Navarro. Eamon McLaughlin extended the led to 3-1 in the 18th minute. As he found the back of the net after an assist from Navarro.

Head Coach Derek Potteiger was proud of the response from the team after giving up the early equalizer. "There's a lot of variables that make that a really tough game and so a great win for the guys. Beyond that I'm really proud of our response after we gave up that first goal.  We could have easily let that get to us but instead we put 2 more away pretty quickly."

Ehmann made it 4-1 in the 29th minute when he hit a scorcher from 35 yards out and found the top left corner of the net. Tyler Kindburg scored his first goal of the season in the 56th minute to give the Flames a 5-1 lead.

Navarro's two assists give him eight on the season which is the most in the Gulf South Conference.

The Flames end the road swing with a big three points in the conference standings. "It wasn't a perfect performance as we can still get better in certain phases of the game but we will take it and now start turning our focus to West Florid," said Potteiger.

The Flames will return home and take on West Florida on Friday, October 7 at 7 PM at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
