Lee Men's Golf Adds Mitchell Strickland to 2023-2024 Roster

CLEVELAND, Tenn. Lee University men's golf team boosted it's 2023-24 team with the signing of Mitchell Strickland, Lee Director of Golf John Maupin announced on Thursday, April 13.

Strickland comes to Lee from Eatonton, Ga. He competed in the 2022 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay and was the winner of the GA PGA Chattahoochee Junior Classic with rounds of 68-74. Strickland had a top 10 finish at the AJGA Dana Incorporated Junior Open with rounds of 69-70-76. He also had a top 10 finish at the Michigan Boys Junior PGA Championship with rounds of 71-74

Coach Maupin says of Strickland, "I want to extend a warm welcome to Mitchell and his family to the Lee University Golf program.  We are very excited about Mitchell's decision to join us, and I believe he has a bright future ahead. Mitchell has been around golf his whole life, and has a true passion for the game.  He's played at the highest levels of junior golf with success, and his level of experience will serve him well as he begins his college golf career.  Beyond just his golf, it was very evident on his visit to campus that Mitchell would be a great fit for Lee University and would have a great opportunity to thrive here."

Strickland said he knew it was the right fit to be a part of the Lee family. "From our first conversation and with every interaction, I knew being part of the Lee Golf Team under Coach Maupin was what I wanted and where I believe God led me. I can't wait to join such a great group of teammates and look forward to doing my part to chase continued excellence.  In my time at Lee University, I want to better myself as a golfer, as a student, and as a Christian. I looked at lower-level D1 programs, but I realized that the competition level and quality of players at the top D-2 programs was actually better."
