NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Three second half goals from the Lee University Lady Flames soccer team propelled them to their second win of the season. In their final tune up before starting Gulf South conference action, the Lady Flames defeated rival Trevecca Nazarene University 3-0 on Saturday evening.
Despite multiple scoring chances in the first half, the Lady Flames were unable to capitalize in the first half with a goal. The pressure continued in the second half, but Trevecca's goalkeeper Bailie Fiore mounted save after save and secured seven throughout the contest.
The deadlock was broken in the 73
rd minute when Kate Dirkse headed a corner kick from Avery Sides just past the diving keeper to give Lee the 1-0 lead.
Just over 90 seconds later in the contest, Alaysia Nye received a pass from Grace Berry and scored on a rocket shot from just outside the penalty box. Her second goal of the season flew into the back corner of the net.
The third and final goal for the Lady Flames came in the 85
th minute. Tatum Miller took advantage of a missed assignment from the TNU defenders and calmly took a cross from Ashley Eulo and scored her first goal of the season.
Lee completely dominated the game taking 21 shots with ten on goal compared to three shots with two on goal from Trevecca Nazarene. Abby Whitcomb saved both shots in goal that she faced for the Lady Flames. Lee also managed to force eight corner kicks to just two for TNU.
Lee will return to action on Friday. September 15 as they will start GSC play as they will take on the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM EST.
