Flames Earn Second Straight Shutout Road Win

TIGERVILLE, SC. –For the second straight game, the Lee University men's soccer team scored an early goal and held off their opponent to collect a shutout on the road, as the Flames defeated North Greenville University 3-0 on Wednesday evening.

In all three games this season, the Flames have scored their first goal within the first 18 minutes of the game. In tonight's contest, Ryan Chouyouti opened the scoring with a goal in the third minute. He followed Marcos Garcia's missed shot and slotted it in the left back corner of the net on the rebound.

Lee doubled the lead in the 51st minute when Ruben d'Hollosy was left unmarked on a free kick. He received Marc Ehmann's free kick and headed it home to give Lee the 2-0 lead.

The third and final goal came on another set piece for the Flames. On a corner kick in the 79th minute, Ehmann played it short to Chouyouti who then crossed it into the box where Garcia headed it in to give Lee the 3-0 lead.

Lee outshot the Crusaders 11-10 on the night with an even 6-6 amount with shots on goal. Robert Bailey, the Flames goalkeeper, earned his second straight shutout making six saves in the process.

The Flames were a lot more disciplined than NGU in the contest, only committing four fouls to NGU's 15.

The Flames will return home to the friendly confines of the Ray Conn Sports Complex on Saturday, September 9 at 7 PM as they will play host to Lincoln Memorial.

Coach Derek Potteiger's Thoughts:

"That was a big time performance from the group tonight, and my most significant feeling is that I'm really proud of this team!"

To travel four hours on the day of the game, playing away from home with a lean roster, and win 3-0 - that is a sign of a team's character."

"It wasn't a perfect performance and so there are things we need to keep working on, but the investment was there from group and there specifically we had some great individual performances tonight."

"We will enjoy this win for the night, but tomorrow is back to work as we have a really tough game on Saturday night at home.

I'm hoping we can get a great crowd that can help inspire us at the RCC on Saturday!"
