Lady Flames Settle For a Draw With CBU

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Despite dominating a lot of the statistical numbers, the Lee University women's soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Christian Brothers University on Friday evening. With the tie, it snapped a three-game win streak for the Lady Flames and moved them to 6-3-5 overall and 6-1-3 in GSC action.

Lee still sits in fourth place in the Gulf South Conference standings and will take on third place Union University on Sunday, November 3 at 2 PM in Jackson, Tenn.

Lee dominated the shots throughout the entire matchup outshooting CBU 19-6. However, both teams had four shots on goal. Abby Whticomb had three saves in net for Lee.

CBU struck first in the 59th minute as Alexa Franklin used a breakaway to beat Whitcomb in a one-on-one situation. After that, the Lady Flames turned the pressure on even more.

The equalizer came from Avery Sides in the 72nd minute. Her blast just outside the 18-yard box bounced past the keeper. Lee had a chance for a winner but Grace Berry's shot just a few seconds left went over the crossbar.

Berry had six shots in the contest while Addie Chapman had four. CBU earned two yellow cards while Lee didn't have any.

Coach Lee Hughes' Thoughts:

"Disappointing result tonight. We created enough clearcut chances to win the game, in the last few games those have been going in.  We have to learn from tonight and keep growing like we have been doing all year."
