ORLANDO, Fla.-The Lee University women's golf team came in fourth at the annual Peggy Kirk Bell invitational on Tuesday afternoon. On a tough course, the Lady Flames had the second best final round to finish the tournament in fourth place. Lee shot a 948 over the three rounds. They were 23 shots behind Nova Southeastern won the tournament who shot a 925.
The Lady Flames struggled in round one shooting a 328 as a team. They rebounded in round two with a 306 which was the best round for any team outside winners NSU. The third and final round, Lee had a 313. Barry University (929) finished second, while the host school Rollins College (946) came in third place by two strokes. The University of Montevallo came in fifth with a score of 956.
Supuschaya (Yui) Srichantamit was the top finisher for Lee. She came in tied for sixth with a 231 (78-78-75). Banthita (Pearl) Phoncharatkun finished tied for 11
th. She shot a 235 (83-77-75) over the three rounds. Hannah was the third finisher for Lee coming it tied for fifteen. Her score was a 239 (83-74-82) over the two days.
Emily Ritchie shot a 244 (84-78-82) over the three rounds to come in tied for 25
th. Olivia Ireland had a 249 (84-77-88) to come in tied for 37
th. Freshman Hope Harrell competed as an independent and came in 56
th. She shot a 269 (84-93-92) for the week.
Lee will go to Greenwood, S.C. to compete in the Lady Bearcat Invitational on March 25-26.
Coach Geandra Almeida's Thoughts:
"This was a very challenging week for us. I think it was a good opportunity for us to see where we are stacked up against some of the best teams in the country."
Physically, I think we are not far off from where we want to be. However, this week, our mental toughness and other areas of weakness were exposed."
"I feel confident that heading close to the post season we will continuously improve on those areas and will pay dividends in the coming weeks. As long as we learn from some of the challenges we faced this week we will be better prepared to close out the season strong."
