CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University Athletic Department received over $75,000 in donations from 315 donors during its inaugural Give Day – Developing Champions in the 423 campaign on Tuesday, April 23.
General donations will help ensure that the Flames continue to lead the way in the Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II by providing the preeminent college athletic experience for our student athletes. That experience includes funding athletic scholarships, facility upgrades, additional staffing, special trips, equipment and uniform upgrades and mental health and leadership development resources which prepare our student-athletes to achieve in every facet of life.
"I want to express my sincere gratitude to each and every person that supported the "Developing Champions in the 423" campaign. I hope you understand how impactful your generosity is to the lives of our student athletes and their experience here at Lee University," said Lee Athletic Director, John Maupin. "On behalf of our entire athletic department I want to say thank you for being a crucial part of Flame Nation and giving us a chance to be among the very best in NCAA DII."
Different team initiatives and campaigns included volleyball and men's and women's basketball raising money for state-of-the-art video boards inside Walker Arena. Men's and women's tennis, men's and women's soccer and lacrosse each raised money for brand new locker rooms while both golf teams raised money to go towards practice facility upgrades. Teams will also use the money to fund educational cross-cultural trips and upgrade uniforms and equipment.
"We are grateful for the support of so many former players, alumni, friends, and family during our inaugural Lee Athletics Give Day. Developing Champions in the 423 was a huge success thanks to the incredible support of over 300 donors," said Lee Associate Athletic Director, Carman Lastoria. "Our goal is to create an environment and culture where our student athletes can excel in all areas of life. We strive to develop champions in the classroom, their sport, their faith and in the community. With the funds raised from this campaign we will be able to continue to fulfill this vision."
