Women's Soccer, Unbeaten Embry-Riddle Battle to 0-0 Draw

CLEVELAND, Tenn.-Two teams that place a high value on defense, played to a hard-fought 0-0 draw on a warm Saturday afternoon on the Ray Conn Sports Complex. For unbeaten Embry-Riddle University  (Fla.) it was the sixth tie of the year and moved its record to 5-0-6. Lee University Lady Flames moved to 7-2-3 overall.

Coach Lee Hughes will have until Friday to prepare his women's soccer team for the long road trip to Mississippi. The Lady Flames will face Mississippi College on Friday (2 p.m.) and have a day off before testing Delta State University on Sunday (2 p.m.).

Lee outshot the Eagles 15-7 and placed seven on goal while Embry-Riddle had four on target. In the final minute of play Grace Berry broke free and came within inches of giving the Lady Flames the victory. It was Berry's only shot on goal of the contest but she played the entire 90 minutes.

Sydney Clements joined Nora Burton and Avery Sides in playing the entire contest. Clements had a shot on target while Megan Davis, Analisa Lujan and Whitney Carrigan had one shot each. Alaysia Nye was the only Lady Flame to place two shots on goal. Carrigan, one of the top defenders in the GSC, played 88 minutes. Freshman Madleen Franz has received valuable starting time and played 75 minutes. All totaled, Coach Hughes used 16 players on the turf that had to reach near the 100 degree mark.

Lee goalkeeper Abby Whitcomb worked the entire game and recorded four saves while Eagle keeper Stella Roane registered seven saves. Embry-Riddle did receive five corner kicks to Lee's three. The Lady Flames were called for eight fouls and received one yellow card while the Eagles were whistled for six fouls in the rugged contest.

Coach Lee Hughes thoughts:
"Really happy with the effort today. They are a good team and honestly, we created enough chances to win the game. But sometimes the game doesn't reward you for your efforts. This week is just about getting better as a group as we prepare to hit the road for our next two conference games."
