CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University women's tennis team welcomed Shorter University to the DeVos Tennis Center on Monday and handed the Lady Hawks a 7-0 loss. The Lady Flames improved to 2-0 and Shorter dropped to 0-1 for the season.
Maria Penalver Aguilo and Kanna Kobyakawa opened the doubles competition with a 6-0 win over Laura Moraz and Sydney Wright. Ashleigh Simes and Aliyah Dwyer secured the doubles point with a 6-0 defeat of Sharita Gula and Sophia Arellano. Vitoria Maximiliano and Mirjana Ragastovac completed the doubles sweep with another 6-0 win.
Penalver Aguilo dropped just one game to Arellano in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Simes posted the same score against Gula to put Lee up 3-0. Dwyer held off Moraz 6-4 and 6-3 at the third spot to clinch the team win for the Lady Flames.
Kobayakawa shut out Danielle Hernandez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Ragastovac was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Wright at No. 4 singles and Maximiliano blanked Katice Ferrell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to secure the shutout.
Lee is scheduled to return to the courts on Saturday, February 22, against Tusculum University. The non-conference competition is set for 1 p.m. at the DeVos Tennis Center.
