No. 27 Flames Defeat No. 24 Lincoln Memorial 6-1

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The No. 27 Lee University men's tennis team beat No. 24 Lincoln Memorial University 6-1 Wednesday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Flames posted its third straight win to improve to 9-2, while the Railsplitters dropped to 17-4.

Filipe Krohn and Stefan Mos beat Harper Mills and Sergio Aranzeta 6-2 at No. 2 doubles to give the Flames an early advantage in the doubles competition. Hugo Ruiz and Alexandru Giurea evened doubles play at 1-1 with a 6-2 defeat of the No. 12 doubles team of Quinn Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen leaving No. 3 doubles to decide the doubles point.

Ethan Hirons and Radu Florea held off Wihan van der Merwe and Jace Sanford 7-5 in a tiebreaker to claim the match 7-6 and put LMU ahead of Lee 1-0.

Rytis Razminas shut out Aranzeta 6-0 in their first set and completed the No. 6 singles win with a 6-4 score in the second set. Groenendijk gave Lee the lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against Mills.

Langerhuizen beat Kai Miyatake 6-1 and 6-4 to win at No. 4 singles. Mos outlasted Hirons 7-5 to win the opening set of their No. 5 singles contest. Mos completed the straight set win with a 6-1 margin in the second set to clinch the team victory for the Flames.

Krohn beat Florea 6-3 and 6-4 at No. 3 singles. The No. 1 singles match between van der Merwe and Giurea went three sets with two tiebreakers. Giurea won the opening set 7-6 following a 7-5 tiebreaker. The final two sets were claimed by van der Merwe with a 6-4 second set score and a 10-5 super set tiebreaker for the third set.

The Flames travel to Montgomery, Alabama, on Friday to face Auburn University in Montgomery for the first of two straight road GSC contests. The match is set for 11 a.m. ET at the AUM Tennis Complex.
