Late Rally for the Flames Comes up Short at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –A late rally by the Lee University men's soccer team came up just short as they fell 2-1 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The Chargers scored two goals in the second half to take the lead. Marcos Garcia scored one to get a goal back, but the Flames could not get the equalizer. With the loss the Flames fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in Gulf South Conference action. The Chargers improved to 4-0-1 and 1-0 in GSC play.

Neither team had many chances in the first half with Lee taking two shots and UAH attempting three. Only one save by UAH was made.
 
The Chargers took the lead in the 50th minute when Phillip Seifert converted a free kick from about 20 yards out. His shot on the right side of the box slipped past Charles Carriglitto in goal for the Flames. UAH doubled the lead in the 57th minute when Brennan LeBlanc headed a cross from Wesley Atoyebi into the back of the net.
 
Lee got on the board in the 83rd minute on a corner kick. Garcia slotted home a loose ball from about five yards out to make it 2-1. Lee had several more opportunities but could not get the equalizer. 
 
UAH outshot Lee 8-5 in the contest. The Chargers had two yellow cards while Ethan Stewart had a yellow card for Lee.
 
The Flames will continue the Alabama road trip on Sunday, September 21. Lee will take on the University of West Alabama at 4:30 PM in Livingston, Ala.
